Project:

Avoca Street

2006-07

Toward the completion of this townhouse renovation by Rice and Skinner Architectural Design, Mel began work on the front and rear courtyards.

The garage opens onto the rear courtyard and a raised Harcourt granite pathway leads over the pond to the townhouse entry. The entire yard was turned into a three-tiered pond with a large tree planter (Acer vitifolium) and smaller cut-out planters constructed of Harcourt granite, providing a tranquil view through the walls of glass.

The front courtyard again used the Harcourt granite, this time as steps, planter box (Parrotia persica) and paving in the lawn and the space broken with low hedges (buxus sempervirens).
