This 40Ha site had been stripped mined for sand and witnessed the rolling hills become a flat plane only 1.5m above the water table. The clients are dedicated to transforming the site back into a healthy ecosystem.
Mel’s role was to assist the clients with an overall design, including plant selection, to create a series of small, protected grazing areas and shelterbelts that doubled as wildlife corridors. A Banksia cone found nearby was the impetus for the design concept.
The design was drawn out using GPS and large areas of organic mulch were laid, then re-laid as a thin layer containing the seed bank.
